Mass grave from Thirty Years' War opened
Archaeologists have started unearthing human remains from a mass grave near the German
town of Lützen, a find that dates back to the Thirty Years' War. "We estimate that there are at least
75 dead, who were buried very close together in several layers," archaeologist Susanne Friederich said on Friday.
The Battle of Lützen, which took place in 1632, pitted Swedish soldiers against those under the command of German
Roman Catholic general Albrecht von Wallenstein.

London (CNN) -- Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams, head of the 85 million-member worldwide Anglican

After 244 years, Encyclopaedia Britannica ends sale of print edition
The Encyclopaedia Britannica -- which has been in print continuously since its beginnings in Edinburgh, Scotland, in 1768 -- is finally abandoning print and moving exclusively online.
The current print run of the venerable encyclopedia
will be the last, the company announced Wed., March 14, as the publisher continues an evolution into digital products begun
over 20 years ago -- and ends the print version after 244 years.
"It’s the oldest continuously printed reference
work in the English language,” Tom Panelas, a spokesman for Encyclopaedia Britannica, told FoxNews.com. In that time
the company has printed a little over seven million copies, he said.

History Project

World View Foundations
has undertaken the task of seeking out and conducting oral history interviews with people whose stories are critical in providing
an accurate and complete narrative as to what life was really like in the Third Reich, World War II and to separate
fact from fiction and propaganda.
World View Foundations
will be conducting interviews with former citizens of the Third Reich and archiving those interviews, unedited, on our new Oral History Page.
The first interview was conducted on March 7, 2012 and will be uploaded within the week. Over the course of the next year, World View Foundations will be traveling throughout the United States conducting these interviews
in person. Interviews from Europe will be conducted telephonically.
We are proud to announce that we will be conducting our
second Oral History Interview.
We are currently coordinating
with a Sudeten German who has agreed to provide a Oral History Interview and who lived in the Sudetenland from the time of
its unification with the Greater German Reich until the end of the war in 1945 and was a witness to the Czech atrocities and

Prosecutors are
investigating the death of a newborn boy who died in September after contracting herpes through a controversial practice of
ritual circumcision, reviving a debate in New York over safety and religious freedom. The Brooklyn district attorney, Charles
J. Hynes, confirmed on Wednesday that the investigation was continuing, but declined to comment further.
The cause of death of the 2-week-old boy, who died at Maimonides Hospital in Brooklyn
on Sept. 28, was Type 1 herpes, caused by "ritual circumcision with oral suction," according to the medical examiner's
office. The ritual of oral suction - or in Hebrew, metzitzah b'peh
- is practiced almost exclusively in ultra-orthodox communities and, to a lesser degree, in Orthodox Jewish communities, despite
efforts by the city to curtail it and educate communities about its health risks. The procedure occurs during the circumcision
ritual of the bris, as the practitioner, or mohel, removes the foreskin of the penis and then sucks the blood from the wound
to clean it.
In 2003 and 2004, the city reported three
cases of Type 1 herpes that were linked to circumcision, involving a boy on Staten Island and twin boys in Brooklyn, one of
whom died. The procedures were done by one mohel, Rabbi Yitzchok Fischer, who was later prohibited from performing the ritual
in New York City. The authorities have not determined the identity
of the mohel in the most recent case, but since the death they have been trying to work with the Hasidic community. In 2004,
after the death of the twin, the Brooklyn district attorney tried to investigate but received little cooperation within the
community, according to a person with knowledge of the case who spoke on the condition of anonymity because it was not brought
to trial. It was not believed that Rabbi Fischer was under investigation
for the latest case, and he did not return a phone call seeking comment. His lawyer from the 2004 investigation, Mark J. Kurzmann,
said he would not comment.
Roughly two-thirds of newborn boys
in the city's Orthodox communities are circumcised with metzitzah b'peh, said Rabbi David Zwiebel, the executive vice president
of Agudath Israel of America, who said he was using a calculation based on religious school enrollment figures. He said that the mohels in the Hasidic community were cognizant of hygiene and
that there were things they could do to reduce the risk of herpes without ending the practice. "We're not oblivious to
what's going on," Rabbi Zwiebel said.
"The worst thing
that could happen is if the authorities regulate this practice, then it could go underground," he said. "I think
the practice would continue, but there could be significant difficulty in gathering evidence. I would hope that our government
officials take steps in conjunction with the community."
In
2005, Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg assembled rabbis throughout the city to try to persuade them to move away from metzitzah
b'peh. But they said that the practice was safe and that there was no definitive evidence that it caused herpes. "The
Orthodox Jewish community will continue the practice that has been practiced for over 5,000 years," Rabbi David Niederman
of the United Jewish Organization in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, said at the time. "‘We do not change. And we will
not change."
But in the Bronx on Tuesday, the mayor talked
about the medical examiner's findings in the most recent death, which was also investigated by the health department. "There
is probably nobody in public life who fights harder for the separation of church and state than I do, but I just wanted to
remind everybody: religious liberty does not simply extend to injuring others or putting children at risk," Mr. Bloomberg
said. "And we will continue working with the community and others to prevent more baby boys from suffering these tragic
fates."

paintings is called Memories of Stalingrad and shows wounded German soldiers sheltering in a trench during a battle.
Despite the massive defeat that Hitler's forces suffered at Stalingrad by Soviet
forces, the painting is believed to be one of the Fuhrer's favourites.

he never saw defeat in the eyes of his troops when he viewed them on newsreels being paraded by the Soviets after the
defeat of Stalingrad, there is no defeat in the eyes of the Wehrmacht Soldaten in this painting nor in the many newsreels

It is believed that as the war
came to an end Hitler ordered that the paintings be hidden in a monastery in Bohemia.
However, the art collection was discovered by American forces and taken to an artifact collection point. They
then disappeared and it is unclear how the collection ended up in the convent in the Czech Republic.

to show why the man and his followers could so identify with his messianic program to save Germany. Yes, save it. The very

of course Hollywood would never see fit to cast their ideal system in a bad light or see their "Uncle Joe" cast
in anything other than a benevolent light, of course real history proves the opposite is the case. The story that Hollywood
will never tell, OR MOVIE THEY WILL NEVER MAKE, is contrary to the Captain America fables they tell and other fantasy stories.
When the United States was in the depths of defeat in the Space Race, it turned to none other than Germans, German Expertise,
and German technology turned out to be the basis for America's Rocket technology which ultimately defeated the Soviet Union
in the Space Race and put the first man on the moon. Interestingly Hollywood leftists were cheering the Soviets at the time

Wernher von Braun became the leading figure in the development of
rocket technology in National Socialist Germany then in and in the United States. In 1937, von Braun joined the National
Socialist German Workers Party (NSDAP), von Braun was also a member of the Waffen-SS horseback riding school from 1933 and
was commissioned a Sturmbannführer and maintained these memberships until the end of the war, and both Organizations
were banned after 1945. Von Braun was working on his Graduate School doctorate when the National Socialist German Workers
Party (NSDAP) came to power as part of a coalition government in Germany in January of 1933; rocketry immediately became part
of the national agenda. Then Reichswehr, later Wehrmacht Artillery Captain, Walter Dornberger , arranged for Ordnance Department
Research and Development funds for von Braun, who went to work next to Dornberger's solid-fuel rocket test site at Kummersdorf.

Wernher von Braun was awarded a doctorate in physics in1934 from the
University of Berlin. His thesis was titled; "About Combustion Tests" This thesis was only the public portion of
his work. His full thesis, "Construction, Theoretical, and Experimental Solution to the Problem of the Liquid Propellant
Rocket", was kept classified by the army. It was actually not published until 1960, some fifteen years after the end
of World War II. By the end of 1934, von Braun's work group had successfully launched two rockets that rose to heights of
2.2 and 3.5 kilometers. During World War II, von Braun was responsible for Germany's advanced rocket development program.
Von Braun major achievement was the design of the first ever ballistic missile, the V-2 combat rocket which was launched by
Germany in 1944 during World War II.

After the end of World War II, he and key members of his rocket staff
were taken to the United States as part of Operation Paperclip, the American operation to gather key German scientists for
use in the United States before they could be captured by the Soviets. In 1957, the Soviets were clearly ahead of the United
States in Rocket and Space development with its launch of Sputnik 1, the first operational Satellite. United States officials
in late 1957 made the decision to employ von Braun and his German work team's expertise with missiles and tasked them to create
the United States first launch able operational orbital vehicle. Interestingly, Werner von Braun had volunteered to do so
three years earlier in 1954 but had been turned down. Wernher von Braun became an American Citizen in 1955. Wernher von
Braun went on to develop the America's Intermediate Range Ballistic Missile (IRBM) program, after which his work group was
made part NASA, where he served as director of the Marshall Space Center. Wernher von Braun also served as Chief Architect
of the Saturn V Super booster that propelled the Apollo spacecraft to the Moon.

Wernher von Braun's greatest achievement was his leadership in the
development of the Saturn V booster rocket that made possible the landing of the first men on the Moon in 1969. Werner von

of Science from the United States, von Braun was the recipient from Germany of the Knights Cross of the War Merit Cross (1944)
and War Merit Cross First Class with Swords (1943). NASA colleges say of von Braun, "he is without doubt,

von Braun should be recalled as a true "Captain America"

Robert
H. Jackson was confronted with a problem. Former U.S. Attorney General had always competently served his President Franklin
D. Roosevelt in the legal protection of American war policy. Now he had been sent to Europe when the war was ending. It was
necessary to set there an official end to the conflict and to state, once and for all, that Germany alone was to be blamed
for the Second World War. While the British government had advocated to execute the most important members of the German leadership
without further ado, from an American perspective a formal court trial had to take place. Jackson told his allied fellow lawyers
in several attempts the reason why. Finally, he knew well and emphasized that the German declaration of war on the United
States was perfectly legal. Therefore, Jackson pointed out, before the court the war in Europe had to be shown to have been,
from the beginning, a German aggression contrary to international law.
This turned out to
be easily said, but difficult to prove. Thorough study of files had made Jackson increasingly doubt there was a chance that
a fair trial would support in any way the assertion of Germany's exclusive responsibility. On the contrary:
The Germans will certainly accuse our three European allies to have pursued a policy that has enforced the
war. I say this because the seized documents from the German Foreign Office, which I have seen, all come to the same conclusion:
"We have no escape, we must fight, we are surrounded, we are strangled." How would a judge react if this is found
in the trial? I think he would say: "Before I condemn anyone as the aggressor, he ought to describe his motives"
And that would be catastrophic, Jackson continued, because if this trial leads to a discussion
of the political and economic causes of the war, this may cause infinite damage, both in Europe I do not know well, and in
America that I know fairly well However, ultimately those prospects only spurred the eager U.S. lawyer. He planned his perfect
trial as a legislator and carried it successfully through as a prosecutor by simply banning any discussion on the causes of
the war before the Nuremberg tribunal. Nothing was found on the war policies of the West, Poland, or the USSR since almost
all documents and testimonies that would have been relevant in this respect were rejected by the court as irrelevant. The
shark pool of European politics during the interwar period mutated into a carp pond in Nuremberg, with just one single pike
in it. One can say that seldom a Court verdict has been used in this way to work so long as the model for the research of
historians.
The professorial German historiography, however, initially began quite frankly
to think about the deeper causes of the German and European disaster. Ludwig Dehio presented in 1948 with "Gleichgewicht
oder Hegemonie" ("Balance or Hegemony") a complete theory of the modern European state system, in which the
Second World War appeared as the last section of a long succession of traditional struggles for supremacy. Germany was seen
as a trigger of the war, but stood in a row with Spain in its expansive era of the 16th Century, and the France of Louis XIV
and Napoleon Bonaparte. National Socialism was already historized, several decades before in the Federal Republic the lively
discussion broke out about whether this shouldn't be prohibited for moral reasons.
Himself
of Jewish origin, Dehio had retreated and survived the Nazi regime in Berlin. Now he saw no reason to marginalize the Nazi
crimes, but also no reason to see them as anything but a modern means of total power expansion. He attributed the radicalization
of the Nazi regime also to a growing "Russian admixture" which reflected the "increased influence of Asia"
in Europe, thus anticipating in some way Ernst Nolte. Hitler's attempts had failed to quasi infiltrate the world system through
local actions. The club of world powers united to fight down the next competitor, as "it was an elementary principle
of their politics to stand together against any power that seemed to outdo them." Such clear judgment requires a
higher point of view. Dehio wrote European history and was carried by a consciousness that once had been European common sense,
and which didn't include the ubiquity of moral self-doubt about the exercise of state power. Therefore, from his perspective,
the question remained basically secondary, how this constellation had manifested itself at the level of concrete diplomacy.
The mere existence of a united Germany represented potentially a new factor in world politics. Its destruction (or at least
decomposition) had, since 1914, been a constant element of wishful thinking of major parts of the political elites of the
other great powers. To Dehio and many of his contemporaries thinking in historical terms, it would have appeared completely
absurd to deny this goal and its importance to the renewed outbreak of World War II from 1939 and especially for the course.
He didn't denounce it, he just stated the fact.
Politically, the question remained controversial,
who in 1939 had actually started the renewed hot conflict. The Cold War made it a matter of continuous current importance,
when West and East suddenly accused each other of having used the German government in 1939 as a trigger. Depending on the
perspective, the war of 1939 could thus suddenly appear as a capitalist-fascist, or a communist plot. The analysis of detailed
questions, however, was increasingly the victim of a moralization of historical science, which was no longer self-confident
enough for a historical essay in Dehio's style. On the basis of sometimes rather thin sources, individual events were instead
highlighted with accusing gesture. Whether consciously or unconsciously, as in Nuremberg, the role of other countries than
Germany was increasingly neglected. A historical embedding of World War II into a comprehensive explanation pattern did no
longer seem to be adequate.
The obvious observation faded into the background that Germany
had not been the first major European nation that for some time represented the culturally most active, economically most
successful and demographically most dynamic power, but ultimately was defeated by the stronger battalions of a coalition,
at the same time consuming its power and its sense of superiority. There was much talk of a "German
Sonderweg" without considering that every major European nation had gone a special path at its best time, and that in
each case its relevance was quite precisely to be able to go it.

at best a modest contribution that could vanish without much harm to the cultural edifice. The art treasures they possess
were mostly stolen by their armies in Europe or the rest of the world. They have hardly any cultural achievements of their
own, and those that they do have stem from the spiritual consciousness of that part of the world that they today are trying
to destroy. Cities such as Nuremberg and Munich or Florence and Venice contain more eternal manifestations of Western culture
than the entire North American continent. What musicians do the English have to compare with Beethoven or Richard Wagner,
and what artists can the Americans present to match Michelangelo or Leonardo da Vinci? They talk of human culture; we have
it, and remain today its guardians, wardens and protectors.
We have to remember that to properly understand and appreciate the gigantic struggle the Axis powers are engaged in. We
are fighting for the basic values that Europe has created in its thousands of years of history. Even more, we are fighting
for the very source of these values, both in the past and for the future. The very roots of Europe are threatened. The nations
that made the greatest contribution to the West are fighting for their material and spiritual existence. Were they to surrender,
our continent would lose everything. Its very roots would that have borne so much fruit over two millennia would be cut off.
It is stupid and easy to refute when our enemies maintain that they are fighting only the present leadership of the Axis
powers, not their peoples. That is what they have always said, but forgotten it when the time came to act, as for example
in 1918 and 1919. Second, these regimes are the natural expression of their people's modern political thinking. They have
no other reasonable form of government. The claim that their autocratic structure takes the life from art, even makes its
further progress impossible, is easily refuted both theoretically and practically. These regimes are not nearly as autocratic
as they are accused of being. They actually have stronger democratic traits than the traditional democracies, and besides
the history of culture shows that everywhere and at every time art does not ask under which political system it lives. Churches
and secular buildings over the centuries were built by tyrannical popes and kings. The best of Europe's paintings come from
ages filled with the noise of the battlefield. Demonic noble families promoted the highest flowering of the visual arts, while
their citizens lived in fear.
Even ignoring the past, the present refutes the stupid and base claims our enemies
use to conceal their actions, which oppose or destroy culture. It is a rape of sound understanding to justify the attacks
of English or American terror planes on German or Italian cities on cultural grounds. Attacks on German or Italian cultural
centers that were built over centuries are reduced to soot and ashes in a brief hour. This is far more than an attempt to
terrorize our population, much less to attack our armaments production. This is evidence of an historical inferiority complex
that wants to destroy what the enemy is incapable of producing himself, and has never created in the past. European humanity
must blush in shame that a 20-year-old American, Canadian or Australian terror flyer can destroy a painting by Albrecht Durer
or Titian, that he can destroy the work of the most honored names in history, though he and millions of his countrymen have
not even heard of them. There can be no apology for such behavior. It is a cold, cynical, calculating attack by the spoiled
child of Europe. These upstarts from the New World turn against the Old World because it is richer in soul and spirit. Its
eternal artistic accomplishments stand against skyscrapers, cars and refrigerators.
Is it not interesting that
the English leadership has destroyed dozens of German theaters, while England itself does not have even a single serious theater?
And the Americans are not even worth mentioning. They lay waste to Europe's cities and their cultural landmarks, since there
is nothing to compare them to in Chicago or San Francisco. Their bombing terror will destroy that part of European art and
culture that they cannot buy.
We know what they are up to. This war is about more than our daily bread, our living
space, and our peace. More than ever before we have to defend our most valuable possessions, the things that make life worth
living, without which human life is meaningless, like the lives of our enemies from the steppes of the east.
The
war is a great destroyer, but it also contains constructive elements that suddenly appear in the midst of its destructive
work. It robs us of our senses, yet also gives them back. Never before have our continent's people been able to see so clearly
where Europe stands and what we must do. Times of comfortable peace may make the lure of material comfort seem all too satisfying.
The war wipes it all away. It drives away dullness and indifference, and returns us to the roots and sources of our strength,
teaching that man does not live by bread alone. Never have the German people has such a drive toward intellectual and spiritual
things as they do today. I am not speaking of the less pleasant manifestations of war, which are always there. But one should
look to our theaters, concert halls, museums and art exhibitions. Day and night, summer and winter, tens and hundreds of thousands
of Germans sit or stand there astonished at so much beauty. We have become richer, more fulfilled and better as a result of
the war.
It would be a mistake to explain this development exclusively on material grounds. The German people
are not spending their money on art because there is no other way to spend it, as is sometimes said. The path to art is the
path to their hearts. The present with its pain and misery drive us to the consoling certainties of our people, and where
are they more visible than in art? We see in it the answer to the destructive fury of our enemies. We learn today to appreciate
what they cannot understand, since it is threatened. It is of no importance if this occasionally occurs in primitive ways,
or as some know-it-alls call it, Kitsch. Over time things will work themselves out. We were all beginners once, and what pleased
us as children often does not please us once we are mature. A large part of our people still are in their childhood years
in this regard, which leaves room for systemic education and development. Despite all our rich and glorious past, we are a
people at its beginning. Everything is open before us. We need only to reach out.
It would be more than serious
if today's artists did not want to understand that. Never have they had a more eager public than they have today. One must
recall the past to know what that means. New pictures, sculptures, plays, novels, symphonies and operas are no longer of interest
only to intellectual critics in the newspapers, as was once the case. Today they must withstand the eye and ear of the people.
Even more, they have to endure comparison with the great works of he past, which the popular consciousness today has begun
to understand, and which provide the standards for the new fans of art. Goethe's maxim is truer today than it ever was: the
artists must create, not talk. The age offers each the opportunity to display his talents. In contrast to the past, each has
an equal chance. No one can complain that he had no chance to speak, as long as he has something to say. Let him reach for
the pen, the brush, the chisel and the compass and speak with the instruments of his art and his calling to an age that is
waiting for enlightenment.
It is almost a miracle that in the midst of this gigantic battle, art is able to exist,
almost untouched by the storms of war. Were any proof needed of National Socialism's support for the arts, this is that proof.
That does not mean that artists can ignore what is going on around them. There may be an artist here or there who believes
that since his art does not concern the war, the elementary laws of war have no application to him. He must be reminded of
his duty, perhaps rather firmly. His desire to stand to the side is not an end in itself. He is working for his people, which
is enduring the heaviest burdens and deepest sorrows. It has a right to expect the artist to recognize that, particularly
since he enjoys creative freedom in the mist of war that he never had in times of normal and unmolested peace.
I
have the honor to open in the Fuhrer's name the 7th Great German Art Exhibition in the House of German Art in Munich. The
beautiful and impressive exhibition is not independent of its age. Its form is influenced by it. It supplements the war at
the front. Our artists here give evidence of their energy and their creative fanaticism.
As in the past war years,
the Fuhrer cannot be with us. But his spirit is even more with us. This cultural monument, the building and the exhibition,
is his work. It was built in peace, maintained and expanded in war, and points to a happy and blessed peace. Its splendor
today gives us a sigh of what will come when the victory comes, in which we believe more today than ever before. I greet
the Fuhrer in this great age, of which he is the creator. The scaffolding is still there and only the expert can see what
its creator has in mind. But we can all believe in it. We do that with all the strength of our hearts.
An example to Christian Zionists
Israeli troops took aim and fired on this
this statue of Virgin Mary on top of the Catholic Church in Bethlehem. The Israelis hit the statue 70 times and in so doing
mutilated her face and blew her hands off. It cannot be ignored, that while Christian-Zionists pre-occupy themselves with
other Holy Books, the Jewish Talmud refers to the Virgin Mary as a "whore". The actions of Israeli troops seem to
codify this belief.
There has been no apology to Christians
by any Israeli Leader for the desecration of this Christian Holy site and artifact.
